Hi, I’m Laura, an American artist living and creating in France.
Are you craving objects that satisfy your passion for fantasy, folklore, tales of magic and night dreams?
Join me for a garden party where even the scariest of insects is harmless, where you can release your inner butterfly, metamorphose to your heart’s content, get inspired, nourish your soul, find the next character in your own story, perhaps encounter a figure from your dreams. Whether you wear them or collect them, these creatures will help you nurture your own secret garden.
A Little Background
I vividly remember the color theory professor back in university who told me in front of the class that my paint samples were too saturated, that no one would paint their walls with such bright colors and that he felt bad for my group partners, as I had ruined the project. He added that I should not be in the Interior Design department, but I should major in Fine Art. What an idea! I was the one studying Interior Design so that I’d be able to “get a job” after graduation. Well, the professor had exposed me for what I was, an artist, destined to be forced into a “day job” to pay the bills and limited to making art on the weekends.
In fact, I had wanted and planned on being an artist ever since I was eight, encouraged by my grandfather. Well, it took me a few more years of changing courses of study, (Theater Design, Art Education), traveling abroad, and working, to finally enroll in a different university in another state and get my degree in Fine Art. Yes, I finally stopped denying my passion!
I suppose no one’s path is straight or easy or the same as anyone else’s, but every experience feeds our creativity and artistic expression. My path has brought me to France where I live and create in Lyon.
Need Some Color in Your Life?
I aim to create products that you will cherish for a long long time. My ideas come from nature; many of my creations are also inspired by myths, stories and folklore. Using sumptuous French and Italian upholstery fabrics collected in small amounts from local ‘tapissiers’, I combine color, texture and detail for a menagerie of rare creatures.
“Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.” ~Nathaniel Hawthorne
