Set of Leaf Brooches Black Widow Spider Arachnida

No reviews

Spiders can trigger terror, make us want to run the other way, like Little Miss Muffet.

As I was stitching these spiders, I tried to find positive associations or beliefs about spiders.

Here are just a few:

According to 17th c folklore in Maryland, USA (where I’m from), if you kill a spider that is on your clothing, you destroy the gifts it is weaving for you.

The origins of this belief perhaps come from the UK, where a very common spider, known as the money spider (Family: Linyphilidae) is said to bring good fortune when it lands on you.

Inspired by a spider who kept on trying until she finally managed to spin her web, Robert the Bruce went on to defeat the English at the Battle of Bannockburn.

I bring to you spider leaf brooches or hair clips to wear on your clothing, or in your hair, for luck, encouragement, and a reminder to try, try again.

Product Description
Layers of fabrics and embroidery will enchant you. A leaf of sumptuous silk/polyester blend, backed with felt, machine-embroidered veins, with a deadly black widow spider and more details hand-embroidered over this, with wire stems to add a realistic touch. A small leaf (with no spider) accompanies the larger one: wear them separately or together. Brooch clasp or alligator clip sewn onto the back.

You'll receive two leaves!

Large leaf – 4” x 2” including stem (10 x 5 cm)
Small leaf – 4” x 1.25” including stem (10 x 3 cm)

2 brooches
2 hair clips
1 brooch + 1 clip

If you would like 1 brooch + 1 hair clip, I’ll make the large spider leaf a brooch and the smaller leaf a hair clip. Please leave a message to seller at checkout if you’d like this reversed. (Large leaf hair clip + small leaf brooch)

This industrious little creature, weaving positive vibes and good fortune into every beautiful web, is not just for Hallowe’en.
