scarab sketchbook I know lots of people who don’t like insects, they are creepy, annoying, they bite, etc.  However, once you take a closer look, you can’t deny their intricate beauty. My favorites are beetles, and I was having a look at John Galliano’s spring collection 2004 for Christian Dior the other day on YouTube. If you’ve seen videos of this Egyptian-themed show, you’ll remember the amazing and often outrageous clothes, the models’ backward-bending poses, and even the masks. Many of the outfits had scarab accessories, hanging down from the ears, pinned the the chest, as belts, grouped together on necklaces.

I was so inspired that I just had to make some fabric scarabs, for the only thing that rivals my love of insects is my fascination with ancient Egyptian art. green/bronze scarab Shiny vintage fabrics, faceted bead eyes, with legs drawn in marker, at least for now, in the sketchbook phase. black fabric scarab

I’d love to know: Which insects are your favorites? Leave a comment below.
