Green Darner Dragonfly Fiber Art brooch or hair fork
There are times when you want something familiar. Something you can remember.
Like the dragonflies, darting here and there, flashing and flittering by or skimming the water’s surface.
They were one of the (many) wonders of your childhood, spangling the summer air with metallic glints.
Here is the very familiar Green Darner Dragonfly (Anax junius) in the family Aeshnidae, named for its resemblance to a darning needle. It’s one of the most abundant species in North America and also lives in the Caribbean, Tahiti, China and Japan.
And it’s the official insect for the state of Washington!
• Product Description:
This textile version is life-sized, 3” (8 cm) long, with a 4” (12cm) wingspan. The body is fashioned from green and blue silks on an armature, with hand-embroidered brown markings . The wings are made from re-purposed sheer & shimmery curtain fabrics. Large glass bead eyes, all the better to see you with, my dear.
This can be a brooch or a hair fork, you choose in the drop-down menu when ordering.
• Brooch: tiny metal brooch clasp will be sewn onto the back of the body. • Hair fork: a 4” (10cm) long metal (bronze tone) hair fork will be attached with a tiny felt ‘tube’ to the back of the body. The hair fork can be removed if you want to display your dragonfly as a sculpture when he’s not adorning your clothes!
Arrives in a handmade drawstring pouch.
