The stark contrast of black and white, shadow and light, such an elegant combination. And lace: intricate, geometric, delicate design, like a spider’s web, (which may look delicate, but is apparently really strong). I never wear lace, but how I love working with it, making things from it.

Stenciling it onto fabric, white on black, reminded me of making paper snowflakes as a child. Black on white becomes the negative space of the snowflake.

I created these Christmas ornamentsfor a specific project, which didn’t, well…pan out, let’s say. You can read about it on Art Mind’s blog. However, working with lace and paint made me notice similar motifs in nature, insects to be exact. I can’t rival Mother Nature’s perfection, but I had fun trying.
